Timbra, Alani, and Airi ~ Breastfeeding at Home in Murray, UT

breastfeeding

"Before my daughter was born, I had the intention to breastfeed her for six WHOLE months.  My mothering journey has taken me much further than that.  I think there are so many cliche misunderstandings about what it means to nurse a toddler (or a baby who is eating solids, or a baby with teeth, or a baby who is the magic #1) and such a severe lack of knowledge as to why this is an absolutely normal part of development.  Nursing a toddler is NOT like nursing an infant, around the clock, wherever and whenever baby needs to eat.  Nursing a toddler is about connection and security and the nurturing of Independence, it's also about balance, understanding your child's needs, development and level understanding, and even about setting limits within your relationship.  Nursing a toddler is singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" while she nurses before bedtime, and then kisses you goodnight and turns over and goes to sleep.  Nursing a toddler, especially one who is allowed the process of "child lead weaning" means sometimes she falls asleep two or three nights in a row without her nightly "ritual" and you realize she (and you) is outgrowing the need and that your relationship is founded on a deep connection that is evolving into something new.  Nursing a toddler, yes, even a 3 year old who is closer to four, is normal (though maybe not "the norm").

"My love for the breastfeeding relationship, my journey as a mother and my desire for all women to understand the importance of breastfeeding, not just for nutrition, have lead me to making breastfeeding information a HUGE part of my life.
" ~ Timbra, mama to 3 year old Alani and 7 month old Airi

  1. I breastfed one of my children until 3 years and 9 months - when she self-weaned. When my next child self-weaned at 18 months, he seemed so "little" to be weaning!

These are beautiful photos and brought tears to my eyes! Thank you!

  2. Katrina, the photos are beautiful! Timbra you are a wonderful mother! You have two very lucky little nurslings (yes, I said little. once Alani is 13+ you will realize that nursing her at until she was 4 that you did an amazing thing for her and how tiny she really was)
    Thanks for these!

This blog is not intended as a place to debate breastfeeding. There are plenty of other forums on the web for that. It is a place to celebrate breastfeeding. Only positive comments will be posted. Thanks!
